Southern Division Wins the
2004 Eastern League All-Star Game
Altoona Curve infielder Jeff Keppinger
had a double, two singles and drove in a run to lead the Southern
Division All-Stars to a 4-1 win over the the Northern Division at
the 3-A-Day of Dairy 2004 Eastern League All-Star Game at Prince
George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland.
Reading's John Castellano, Erie's Maxim St. Pierre
and Akron's Scott Pratt each added two hits apiece for the
Southern Division. After the Southern Division had taken a 2-0 lead
in the third innning, Pratt's teammate Jason Cooper led off
the bottom of the seventh inning with the only home run of the game
to give the Southern Division some extra breathing room.
Bowie
right-hander Dave Crouthers picked up the win for the Southern
Division. Crouthers retired all three batters he faced in the third
inning while pitching in front of his home town crowd. Binghamton's
Neal Musser took the loss for the Northern Division, after
giving up two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning.
The
Northern Division got their lone run of the game in the ninth inning
when Dominic Rich of New Hampshire scored on an RBI single
by Norwich's Angel Pagan.
Following
the game Keppinger was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the
game.
Prior
to the game Trenton Thunder outfielder Mitch Jones won the
Arby's Home Run Derby. After Bowie's Val Majewski hit five
home runs to open the final round, Jones stepped to the plate and
blasted six home runs to take home the crown.
